NEW ZEALAND NEWS

Josiah Natzke ALSO qualifies for the modified class.

This race was at Aonia Pass MX in Georgia, the South East Regional Qualifying for the American Motocross Nationals to be held at Loretta Lynn's. Josiah got 3rd overall. Accompanied by his mother Janine the pair plan to be in Georgia for a few more days before heading up to Washington DC where the rest of the family (dad Chris, Sarah and Joel) will join them from New Zealand and then head to the Pro National track at Budds Creek in Maryland. It wasn't easy for them and there were jetting issues in the high humidity. Janine takes up the story:

The trip down was hard going. It poured with rain and the thunder and lightening was scary. It was dark but I got the big part of the trip over the first day. Towing the trailer (with the large camper) was okay but I pulled into some dumb places that were very busy.

We arrived at the track Thursday about 2pm so we got set up and signed up then relaxed. Then the rain started and did it pour. The track had heaps of mulch in it so it was boggie on the Friday practice but didn't take long to start drying out.

Josiah was out for his second practice and he cross rutted and crashed. He didn't move and I was worried. You are not allowed on the track but I waited as long as I could then went over. He was moving but the EMS thought he had a broken femur. I was thinking really ? So after the four wheeler had bounced across the ruts to the ambulance, I thought, no he hasn't. They checked him over and said they thought it was okay but I should get it x-rayed in case it was broken or he could bleed to death !!! This freaked Josiah out but I said I would take him back to the RV, ice it and would see how he was. A mother knows her kid best sometimes and if you've seen Josiah when he has broken something, I knew it was not broken. Yes, badly bruised and very sore but not broken.

He was having a bit of trouble with the bike bogging as the humidity was terrible. It was over 100 F (close to 40 C). So I had to ask "can you go out to test the bike or not ?" He did. It wasn't going well off the starts and bogging coming off the jumps. Max and Cason were pitted with us so they got to changing jetting as per PR2's instructions. It was better.

Cason hurt his shoulder in practice so he decided not to race the next day. Josiah's first moto started badly but he pulled through the pack and finished 5th.

Doing maintenance that night Josiah found his chain was tight and not looking good. We went to Tat (David) from Pirelli and asked if he could help us with the new chain. He had a guy with him (Steve) who has a Yamaha connection and he helped. I had told Tat about the bogging and Steve looked at the bike and said it was too lean. So he changed the jetting and the bike sounded much better.

Moto 2 the next day, bad start again but another 5th place finish. That had Josiah in an overall of 6th place. All things going to plan he should have been good. Moto 3, not such a bad start, 6th around the first corner and he passed a rider per lap to give him a 3rd finish and overall qualifying 3rd.

Josiah is very pleased and thanks to Max, Cason, Tat and Steve for helping us out. Photo courtesy of Janine Natzke.

We then packed up and headed South back to Albany. I got the laundry done this morning and yes, Josiah did school which he has been doing as we have been travelling.

We will be here for a few days before heading north to Budds Creek in Maryland. Can't wait 'till Chris, Sarah and Joel

MOTORCYCLE TYRES SOUTH SIDE

Purchase and fitment of motorcycle tyres, on-road or off-road, has been a problem between Auckland City and the Bombays for some time with the closure of several dealerships. I want to bring to your attention the services of Drury Performance Centre at 257 Great South Road, which is just south of Drury township and 200 metres from the motorway interchange. You name it, they stock it, or will get it in for you. Frequent visits revealed another part of their business and that is vintage motorcycles with many collectables entrusted to the team for service and repairs.

Give Mike and the team a call or pay them a visit.

ENDURO / CROSS COUNTRY

Race brief ... Paul Whibley WINS OMA Round 4, Clay City, KENTUCKY

The practice lap on Saturday revealed a tough, tight and extremely slippery track. Hard pack clay that had been watered well by several downpours from passing thunderstorms. Sunday dawned fine and hot with the soil drying rapidly. By race time conditions were looking pretty good. We had a nice surprise while hanging out in the pits. A couple of friends from NZ turned up unannounced to check out the racing while they had some downtime from the harvesters they were operating in Texas.

Off the start I got a good jump and was just pipped to the hole shot line by Jordan Ashburn. A couple of corners later he went for a skate on a slick high speed sweeper. I nearly got tangled in his bike and only managed to avoid going down with him by running off the track and into the weeds. Scotty Watkins inherited the lead and took point for the first mile or so. Jimmy Jarrett found a good line and snuck past both myself and Scotty and began to up the pace.

The track was tight with a lot of logs to hop over and passing was tough. I had opted to swap to the smoothest G2 throttle cam after Saturdays look lap and I felt this was a smart choice with the WR finding good traction. Also the setup now with my Ohlins suspension was working good and it soaked up all the logs crossings with ease. I managed to get by Scotty when we came to a tree that had fallen on the track overnight. The confusion allowed me to move by and close in on Jimmy. Try as I might I struggled to find a way by Jimmy for the next couple of laps. A brief battle started with Husaberg rider Nick Fahringer when I made some mistakes looking for a way by Jimmy. Thad Duvall joined the race as well and used a hot line to swoop to the lead. I finally got by Jimmy and latched onto Thad.

The temperature and humidity was extreme and the low speed technical nature of the track made for a physical combination. I was confident my conditioning was good enough to carry me to the front and remain strong at the end. I got by Thad just before the gas stop and slowly edged away. Late in the race Thad ended up with some problems and dropped to 5th leaving Jimmy Jarrett to claim 2nd and Scotty Watkins filled the final podium spot.

Its good to be back on the top step of the podium. Finally I feel the result reflects some of the hard work the team is putting in. Big thanks to Warren Treder and Daniel Bourke for coming over to check out the racing and step in and help out in the pits during the fuel stop.

BRITISH ENDURO CHAMPIONSHIP

KTM-supported factory rider David Knight, the newly crowned British Enduro Championship was on form at the E3 GP in Poland this weekend conquering the grass and sand and more than 1:20.00 of tests in two days of racing that rewarded him with a first and a third place.

But David did not have it all his own way with KTM Enduro Factory Racing's Simone Albergoni in excellent form on both days for two second places. On Saturday Knight was just 20 second ahead of Albergoni in the final reckoning, an occasion for an all Orange podium with KTM Germany's Marcus Kehr completing the podium. Marcus completed a great weekend of racing with a fifth place on Sunday.

The two days of racing in Poland presented its share of challenges and included a ten minutes long cross test with its share of jumps and was different in character to next weekend's terrain in Slovakia where they will be faced with grass and mud instead of the sand and grass of this weekend.

Knight and Albergoni lead the standings with French rider Christophe Nambotin back in third after a DNF on Saturday.

"All in all I am very satisfied with the overall performance of all the KTM riders this weekend," said KTM team boss Fabio Farioli. "We picked up our share of podiums and there were some very close finishes."

Dean Ferris Euro Debut

Australian MX1 rider Dean Ferris travelled to Europe during the four week break the National MX Champs.

First stop for the 19 year old Ferris was Kester for Round 2 of the Belgian Champs. A top 10 holeshot and he was up into 6th. Jeremy Van Horebeek and Christophe Pourcel got past him and he was left banging bars with none other than Josh Coppins as the pair tried to run down Kevin Strijbos. Coppins got through and Ferris crossed the line in 9th. For Moto 2 Ferris arrived at late and was mid pack and finished 14th giving him 11th overall for the day.

The Team MX Honda Racing will host Ferris at this weekend's GP of Teutschenthal on a CRF450R.

Dean Ferris: "I am excited that Honda Martin has given me this opportunity to race the factory Honda bike this weekend in Germany. This will be an experience of a life time and I intend to make the most of it. Riding the factory Honda will set me on a level playing ground with the GP riders and will give me a great opportunity to judge my speed against the world's top riders. My goal is to race in Europe in 2011 and having a GP under my belt will add to my experience and hopefully I can prove I have what it takes to be a GP contender in the future. I am also going to take this learning experience back to Australia and use it to give myself a good shot at the Australian title."

Ferris will join American Jimmy Albertson for the 8th round of the World Championship. It is Albertson first ride since a huge, high speed crash at Glen Helen.

2010 Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals UPDATE

Australia's best Motocross riders will be aiming to make a break for it on Sunday 27 June, when the 2010 Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals rolls into Albury Wodonga. With only three rounds to go, riders will be battling it out for remaining Championship points in a bid to improve their overall standing as the Series nears the end of what has been a massive year.

In the Pro Opens class reigning Champ and CDR Rockstar Yamaha Team rider Jay Marmont will come into the round with the red leader plates, however, with only 13 points separating him from Bourke local and JDR Motorex KTM's Tye Simmonds, he'll have to work hard if he's going to make it three Championships in a row. Marmont is not the only one facing pressure, with Simmonds sitting merely three points ahead of third placed Honda privateer, Dean Ferris.

Ferris is currently in Europe, banging bars with some of the World's best riders and looks set to make life difficult for the front runners when he returns. Also keen to make life harder for the top riders is UK import, Kawasaki Racing Team's Billy Mackenzie, who has been clocking up some serious bike time and posting outstanding results since injuring his wrist in the second round.

American rider PJ Larsen has amassed an impressive 55 point lead for the JDR Motorex KTM Team in the Pro Lites class in the lead up to the sixth round, while in the Under 19's, MX Rad Coastal KTM's Josh Cachia sits 33 points clear of Yamaha Junior Development Team rider Ross Beaton.

Melbourne loses Monster Energy Super X round

Due to serious issues relating to the uneven surface at Etihad Stadium over the past two weeks, Global Action Sports have been forced to move the Melbourne round of the 2010 Monster Energy Super X Championship. Global Action Sports had a crisis meeting with Etihad Stadium following the unfortunate incident where an AFL player broke his ankle, which resulted in speculation over the turf, and unfortunately it was mutually agreed that the event could not go ahead in 2010 particularly given the extensive adverse media attention.

Managing Director of Global Action Sports, Michael Porra said "I know this news will be very disappointing for all of our Victorian supercross fans, but we understand the stadium's predicament and have no other option but to move the event as there is no other suitable stadium available. The scheduled Melbourne race on October 23 will now be hosted in Canberra and Launceston, Tasmania has been added to the series schedule for round three.

Monster Energy Super X series schedule:

October 16 Newcastle
October 23 Canberra
October 30 Launceston
November 13 Auckland
November 20 Dunedin
November 27 Sydney
December 04 Brisbane

MX3 FROM HOLICE (CZECH REPUBLIC): Campano and Salvini continue their dominance.

Edited copy courtesy of Youthstream

Sixth round of the FIM MX3 World Championship was the most successful for Spanish rider Carlos Campano (Yamaha Andalucia). Campano won in front of Championship leader Alex Salvini (Husqvarna Cross 2 R) and Czech rider Martin Michek (TM ).

First race was one of the most interesting this season. Carlos Campano took the holeshot in front of Martin Michek, who passed him soon. When Michek was leading till the middle part of the race, spectators made great atmosphere for all the riders. In second part of the race Campano took the lead again. Alex Salvini was riding behind Campano and Michek. He was waiting the right moment and then he passed both. When Salvini was leading and Campano was riding back on the second place, home riders Martin Zerava (UFO Racing) and Martin Michek were fighting for the third position. Michek was making pressure on experienced rider Zerava and their interesting fight was going on more than three laps. Salvini was first, Campano finished second. But closer to finishe Zerava an Michek, more nervous was the atmosphere. At the end something incredible happened. Zerava and Michek crossed the finish line almost in the same moment. Bikes were parallel so that on the first look it was almost not clear who finished third. Michek was better than Zerava for only 0.268 second.

Carlos Campano has just been passed by Martin Michek, Check out that rut ?

In second race Carlos Campano took the lead immediately after the holeshot of Martin Zerava. Campano stayed first till the end. Although the track was already bumpy Campano did not have problems as in the first race. Alex Salvini was second. Also in second race Zerava and Martin Michek were fighting for top three. But Zerava made a mistake, which costed him a podium.

With second place and a win Campano became the winner of the day. Salvini took same number of points and finished second. So difference between them in the MX3 World Championship Classification stays four points. Martin Michek finished third. Martin Zerava was fourth and Matevz Irt (Husqvarna Tecno B) was fifth.

Campano and Salvini are on the top of the Championship with big advantage. Irt is 56 points back on third position. Zerava is fourth and after this race he is 25 points far from top three. Dario Arco (Yamaha Argentina) is still fifth but the Czech weekend was not successful for him. He did not finish second race because of the crash, got only three points all together, so French rider Milko Potisek (Honda) is only five points behind.

EMX2 European Championship FROM HOLICE (CZECH REPUBLIC)

Edited copy courtesy of Youthstream

It was an interesting weekend in Holice. Michael Mercandino (P.V.D. Racing) from Italy took his first EMX2 European Championship win and Andrea Cervellin (Husqvarna Cross 2 R) took the red plate.

Winner of the Qualifying race Giacomo Del Segato (MAX Team) started fast but had a bad crash in the first lap and finished without points. Finnish rider Jon Soderberg took the holeshot, then finished the race already in the second lap. It was a great beginning for Italian Samuel Zeni (Zeni Racing). He was leading in front of Steven Lenoir (VAMO Racing) and Andrea Cervellin. Zeni had already big advantage which was not enough for Steven Lenoir. French rider was just too fast in the first race. Lenoir won in front of Cervellin. Italian Michael Mercandino had a bad start in the first race but he finished third after a successful race.

Mercandino is the second bike in #26. Photo courtesy of Youthstream.

Mercandino had a great second race. He was leading from the start and won. Second was Swiss rider Valentin Guillod (KTM Swiss). This is another success for Guillod after a podium in Greece. He was holding second position through the whole race. Third was Jozef Kulhavy (Slovakia). Andrea Cervellin and Steven Lenoir did not repeat top results from the first race. For Lenoir fifth place was enough that he finished on podium. But Cervellin finished out of top three on fourth place.

After all changes in the second race, Michael Mercandino won the Czech round for the UEM EMX2 European Championship. Steven Lenoir was second overall and he became third in the Championship Classification. Valentin Guillod finished third. Andrea Cervellin and Jernej Irt, both Husqvarna riders changed positions on the top. Irt lost the red plate when he crashed in the first race and did not finish. So Cervellin is new leader and his advantage in front of Irt is 21 points already. Irt is second, Lenoir is third, Luke Hawkins (Great Britain) is fourth and Pier Filippo Bertuzzo (Massignani Racing School) is fifth. Bertuzzo lost two positions. He crashed in the second race and did not get any point, so Hawkins and Lenoir overtook him.

MAX NAGL UPDATE

It was only 04 April we were reporting that KTM factory rider Max Nagl had won the opening MX1 GP in Sevlievo, Bulgaria to take his career first red plate as championship leader. Nagl is now recovering from a fractured collarbone, which ruled him out of the Grand Prix of France. He crashed out on the Saturday in France and went straight to Belgium for evaluation and underwent surgery. It is hoped he will ready to race his home Grand Prix, the German GP this weekend.

Osborne wins at Lyng as Pocock also shines

The halfway stage of the 2010 Maxxis British Championship was reached with round four at Lyng in Norfolk and the fast, rough track was the scene of a double podium result for the Bike it Cosworth Yamaha team. Zach Osborne celebrated his third win of the year and second in a row and Mel Pocock grabbed his first trophy of 2010 (second of his career) with third place overall.

Aside from a light shower during the afternoon conditions remained pleasant in eastern England and a fulsome crowd visited the old and natural Lyng circuit to watch the MX1 and MX2 action across one of the loosest and roughest terrain combined with one of the fastest layouts on the calendar.

Osborne sprinted to his second victory on-the-bounce thanks to a scorecard of 1-4-1 from the three motos. The American passed title rival Jake Nicholls and then fronted team-mate Pocock to own the opening moto but was the victim of a collision with the latter in the second that required a charge from 10th place to secure 4th. The 20 year old seized the advantage in the final salvo to cross the line with a nine second margin and stretch his run of chequered flags to five from the last six.

Pocock was quick and flighty on Sunday and thoroughly relished the surge of speed that allowed him to tussle for podium positions. He permitted the fine sight of a tandem 1-2 finish for the squad in the first run, then took 3rd at the second time of asking and repeated the classification in the last race of the day.

In MX1 Jason Dougan, riding the Phoenix Tools Bike it Cosworth Yamaha, obtained 5th, 7th and 9th despite a small slip in the third race. It was a solid and steady performance from the 23 year old who is now 5th in the standings on the YZ450F.

Pocock's bumper haul at Lyng means he is now 5th and 40 points from the top three. Photo courtesy of the Bike it Cosworth Yamaha Team.

"A good result for the team and I am really pleased for Mel, even if he did trip me up in the first moto!" said Osborne. "I think this track was one of the best I have ridden in the UK; it was quick and really gnarly but just really nice to ride and race. Germany is next and I missed Teutschenthal in 2009 so I'm looking forward to getting there, seeing what it is all about the going for another GP podium."

"I'm really happy and it showed what three good starts could do for me," commented Pocock. "I got on really well with the track and took a bit more confidence with every race. I made some sweet moves today and basically enjoyed the whole thing. I felt so bad about the run-in with Zach. I felt someone coming around the outside to pass so I just moved over and happened to tangle with his bars. It was only when I look back when riding up the hill did I see the big '338'!"

"Zach did his usual good job and is looking a strong player for this title - fingers crossed - but I am really happy for Mel today who has been having a hard time at the GPs but is starting to shine at home," commented Team Manager Steve Dixon. "Overall we are pleased that both riders came through unscathed and we will start our preparations for three weeks on the road starting in Germany."

The team wish Mel's younger brother Bradley a speedy recovery after a crash in the MXY2 class resulted in a broken leg for the young racer, the third time in under one year. Bradley was leading the series after the first round and remains in Norwich hospital at the time of writing.

The fast and flowing Teutschenthal circuit for the Grand Prix of Germany will host round eight of the FIM World Championship next weekend, followed immediately by trips to Latvia and Sweden. The fifth round of the national series occurs at Foxhill, near Swindon, on July 25th.

Life isn't always fair. Everyone knows that. If it were so, the extraordinary run of misfortune that has been dogging Matiss Karro on many occasions during the 2010 season wouldn't have happened. The Latvian teenager is dedicated to his sport, works hard, has the skills and the ability to get top results, and yet his season thus far has been steady rather than spectacular, with flashes of brilliance being interspersed with large clouds of unfortunate draw-downs.

The 4th Round of the British motocross championships at Lyng is a case in point. Matiss had targeted the British series as his springboard back to full speed and confidence, and he had already proven earlier in the season that he can finish on the podium and challenge for race wins. It was with all the motivation in the world, therefore, that Matiss arrived at Lyng in the company of the MVR-D Suzuki racing team. He qualified in seventh position.

Matiss' black day started as soon as the gate dropped for the first race. A fluffed start left him way, way down the pack with a heap of work to do. With his usual enthusiasm, he started carving a way forward. A few laps into the race, Matiss' flight path intersected with that of another rider, and he went down hard. He limped back to the pits.

A much better start slotted the MVR-D rider into a Top 10 position. He held his own and improved during the course of the race, finally crossing the line in seventh.

In the third heat, Matiss started just outside the top 10 and quickly moved into the top 10 and up through the field and a Top 5 result looked well on the cards. A few laps in he started dropping back and finally retired from the race with a broken exhaust.

Naturally, Matiss was happy to put a bad day behind him and focus on this weekend's Grand Prix at Teutschenthal.

Jonathan Barragan Update

Jonathan Barragan didn't enter the Spanish Championship last weekend, as the Spaniard didn't feel yet ready for racing. Jonathan started practicing ten days ago, and expects to be back to the GP's in Latvia or Sweden.

Xavier Boog wins again in French Championship

Edited copy courtesy of Kawasaki Racing

For the third time in a row Xavier Boog won a French Elite Championship round, and is now strongly leading the series with two more races to go. Winner in Ernée after great racing against Mickael Pichon and Marvin Musquin, Xavier did an impressive third heat to claim this win and could be crowned as French Champion 2010 during the penultimate race in Iffendic mid July.

Third in the qualifying race on Saturday, Xavier was third again on Sunday in the opening heat and came to the second heat strongly motivated. The kid from Alsace grabbed the holeshot and then leading the entire race, to beat Pichon and Musquin with the fastest lap time. The third and last heat was more difficult for him as another rider picked his gate on the grid and forced Xavier to move outside; the KRT rider missed a good start and was in the pack after a few corners, in fifteenth position. On a technical and rough track he did an impressive performance, coming fourth after ten minutes and then posting fast laps - including the fastest one - to join Pichon, Musquin and Boissière who all battled for the win. None of them could cope with the pressure from Xavier as he passed all three of them to claim his second heat win of the week-end, and the overall classification. He is now leading the MX1 classification by 85 points, with two more rounds - Iffendic in July and Lacapelle Marival in August - to go.

DESALLE AND RAMON WIN IN GERMANY AND BELGIUM

Edited copy courtesy of the Team Suzuki Press Office.

The Rockstar Teka Suzuki World MX1 team may have enjoyed a free weekend away from their FIM MX1 Motocross World Championship commitments - that will shortly see back-to-back visits to Germany, Latvia and Sweden - but they used the break effectively to notch victories on the factory RM-Z450WS in Germany and Belgium.

Clement Desalle took both motos in front of a sizeable 15,000 crowd at the popular and natural Aichwald circuit for the third round of the ADAC Masters German national series. The 2010 Portuguese Grand Prix winner was undisputed with a pair of holeshots and runaway successes. In Belgium Steve Ramon went 2-1 for overall glory at Kester for the second event of the Belgian Championship.

"A win and no crashes, so it was a good meeting!" said Desalle after his domination, and who now fronts the series by two points despite missing the second meeting of eight. "I had some nice starts and could ride my lines. I enjoyed being out there because it was easy to find traction and be fast. The track was old-school motocross style and different to what we find in the World Championship; I really liked it for that."

In the same event, Teka Suzuki Europe World MX2's Ken Roczen guided his RM-Z250 against the bigger machines to third and seventh in the two motos in what was very much a warm-up for the 16 year old's home GP at Teutschenthal next week; where he celebrated his first career win in 2009. Arnaud Tonus was 9th and 17th while Larissa Papenmeier became the first lady to qualify for the Youngster Cup and captured plenty of attention among her male peers by seizing the holeshot.

Over in Belgium and at Kester, Steve Ramon faced numerous Grand Prix peers: The 30 year old enjoyed a close duel with Davide Guarneri in the first moto to seal second place; the Italian winning by less than two seconds. In the second 30 minute and 2-lap sprint, Ramon decimated the field from the first lap. The win represented his third moto chequered flag from four and gives him a 12-point gap over Guarneri in the series.

"It was a good day and the track was a pleasure to ride," he said. "It had been raining in the days before so there was a lot of grip without it being too muddy. I had some good starts and with the first one I was able to fight with Leok and Guarneri until Leok made a mistake and there were only two of us at the front. I was looking for places to pass and it was good racing because we were only two or three seconds between us but Guarneri was riding well. I took the lead on the first lap in the second moto and pushed forward. I had to stay focussed and concentrate because the track was getting rougher with some ruts but I controlled the gap."

The Grand Prix of Germany at Teutschenthal lays ahead for the Rockstar Teka Suzuki crew and the Teka Suzuki Europe World MX2 group next weekend and the start of their busy FIM stint prior to the summer hiatus.

LARISSA PAPENMEIER BLOG

2009 FIM Women's World Championship runner-up Larissa Papenmeier can perhaps rightfully claim to be Suzuki's fastest female motorcycle racer. The petite German runs the number 2 plate on her Teka Suzuki Europe World MX2 RM-Z250 and has taken two podium results from four rounds of the seven in the 2010 contest.

"I had a slow speed crash about one month before the World Championship started at Sevlievo in Bulgaria - the same place that the MX1 and MX2 series' was beginning. It was a silly fall but I broke a bone in my hand and it was a bit of a setback. I carried on riding, and doing the training that I could before going to Bulgaria. In a way the injury helped with my nerves for the race! Obviously I wanted to be 100%, but I went to the GP with little expectations and wanting just to get points. I scored 6th place which was reasonable in the circumstances.

"We had about a month then before our second round and where we would be joining the boys again at Agueda for the Grand Prix of Portugal. I was getting stronger and carried on my training and found time to finish second behind world champion Steffi Laier in the German Championship. Steffi is currently the fastest rider at the GPs but I know that I - and a good few others - are working as hard as we can to catch up and beat her. Germany is well represented in the world championship in which we are competing for the third time now as it began in 2008, for the two years before that it was a World Cup competition. It means that we have a strong national series and that is only good for the future of women's racing in our country as more people can see what we are doing and maybe more girls will decide to come and have a go.

"We went to Portugal and it was pretty tough. It was my worst weekend of the season because I made too many mistakes. I was also out of luck. We ran our first moto on Saturday afternoon and the second before the MX2 and MX1 races begin on Sunday so sometimes we get two different races depending on the weather. This happened at Agueda and it was very wet for our first run. I had a great start in the mud but Laier crashed in front of me and I had nowhere to go. She also crashed into me again later on! I came away from the GP with 7th and feeling disappointed but not too downhearted. I just wasn't concentrating.

"We only had one week before round three which was at Bellpuig for the Catalan GP. I like this track and my approach was to make sure that I stayed on two wheels! I found it difficult to get my rhythm at first but I got quicker and quicker and eventually set the fastest lap. I was 3rd overall for my first 2010 podium and I was happy to be back up on the box. I had braided my hair because I had a similar result there with the style in 2009 and the superstition seemed to work again.

"The MX1 and MX2 boys flew off to the USA soon after Spain and while it would have been cool to race in America when I saw the photos and videos from the GP and the nature of the fast and difficult track with big jumps I thought 'maybe not!'. It seemed like no time at all to the French GP last week and just one week after the race in Glen Helen. Once more we had different weather conditions and the rain on Sunday morning turned the second moto into the worst mud race I had ever done. It was so hard to keep the bike upright and find a way through all the slime, and the mud was very sticky and heavy! For sure I was happy to take another podium with 3rd place. I still need to work on raising my speed in the first part of the race but now I am 5th in the standings and going in a good direction.

"This is my third year riding for the team and a Suzuki. The bike I am on at the moment is Ken Roczen's 2009 race bike and it is nothing sort of perfect. The handling and theeee manoeuvrability; I could not ask for me. There was a lot of power in the engine at the beginning of the season, so we had to make that a bit easier for me so I could handle it. The suspension works great and I am with the best crew to make the results I know I can.

"So this is the fourth Women's World Championship and I think it is making good steps forward because the girls are getting better and quicker. Before they were maybe 3 or 4 of us who could win and I think that group is getting bigger each season. I do notice my profile changing a little bit. I was recently on a German kid's TV show and I would love to do more media work!

"Victor, my fiancé, travels with me all the time and used to be my mechanic but he had too much on so now he helps me with other ways. We are together a lot, he knows the way I think and how I feel in certain situations. It is really good having him around."

CANADA NEWS

MASON PHILLIPS AND RHYS CARTER UPDATE

As mentioned previously Mason and Rhys are contesting the 2010 Monster Energy CMRC Canadian Nationals. Mason is contesting MX1 and Rhys is MX2. The season is well underway.

For 2010 Mason he has changed teams from KTM to Team Faith Kawasaki owned by rider Josh Snider. Last year Mason came back to finish 11th with a win in the mud at Quebec and then a top five at Sand De Lee, the penultimate round.

The CMRC, the governing body, has only one venue change for the nine-round series. That is in Quebec as the series will be returning to Ste-Julie near Montreal. A change to the national weekend format will see Pros practice, qualify and race on Sunday only. No longer will there be an optional practice offered to the Pros on Saturday. This change is being introduced to reduce the cost to participate in the series for all riders, teams and sponsors, and will allow more time for amateur day racing each Saturday.

Also new for the 2010 nationals, the allowable sound level for MX2 bikes has been reduced from 99dBA to 94dBA. The level for MX1 machines will remain at 94 dBA. CMRC is making every effort to reduce noise pollution to ensure facilities remain open and motocross racing remains strong in every region of the country.

Round 1 was at Whispering Pines Raceway in Kamloops, British Columbia. Mason went 9th and 5th and Rhys went 12th and 12th.

Round 2 was at the Castrol Raceway, Edmonton, Alberta. Mason went 6th and 3rd and Rhys went 11th and 13th.

Overall Mason is in 4th - only 5 points off 3rd.

Overall Rhys is in 12th - 3 points off a Top 10.

At Edmonton, Mason said he wasn't very happy with the track but he put it all together in the second Moto for a fine 3rd. Photo courtesy James Lissimore from DMX.

Dungey Makes it Two in a Row, Grabs Points Lead at High Point

MT. MORRIS, Pa. (June 12, 2010) - The third round of the 2010 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship endured a mixture of rain and sun on Saturday as the series made its East Coast debut at the Rockstar Energy High Point National Presented by Centra Bank from High Point Raceway. After breaking through for his first 450 Class victory last weekend, Rockstar/Makita Suzuki's Ryan Dungey, of Belle Plaine, Minn., made it two in a row.

Dungey maintained the momentum he garnered last weekend, going 1-1 on the day to establish a four moto win streak. After grabbing the lead early in moto one, he never looked back but was forced to chase down Honda Red Bull Racing's Andrew Short, of Smithville, Texas, in moto two. Overcoming a multiple-second deficit, he closed in during the closing stages and made the winning pass to lead the final five laps.

"It feels good," said Dungey. "The track turned out better than I thought after the first moto. I got good starts and put us in a good position to be out front. There were a lot of passing lines today. Sometimes you get caught behind someone and have difficulty moving through the pack and that's where starts play a big role."

By virtue of the win, Dungey moved into the 450 Class points lead, surpassing defending champion Chad Reed, of Australia, who suffered from misfortune en route to an 18th-place effort. Short held on for second overall (3-2) while GEICO Powersports Honda's Brett Metcalfe, of Australia, grabbed his first career podium finish in the premier class in third (6-3).

Tyla Rattray Grabs First Career 250 Class Victory

Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki's Tyla Rattray, of South Africa, raced to his first career victory in the 250 Class.

Intermittent rain created difficult track conditions for the 250 Class which once again showcased the depth of talent in the entry level division.

GEICO Powersports Honda's Justin Barcia, of Ochlocknee, Ga., captured the first moto victory but found trouble in moto two. Current class points leader Christophe Pourcel, of France, assumed the winning role in the final moto but Rattray's consistent 2-2 moto scores helped him to his inaugural overall victory.

"It feels good," said Rattray. "I've been working for it and to finally get one now really means a lot to me. Being consistent is what it takes to win the championship. It would have been nice to go 1-1 but at least I was consistent. I've been working hard and it feels good to finally get on top of the podium.'

Pourcel took the runner-up spot (4-1) to maintain his points lead while GEICO Powersports Honda's Blake Wharton, of Pilot Point, Texas, posted a career best result in third (8-3).

RACE BRIEF ... FROM BEN Townley AT High Point.

The Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross championship has moved to the East Coast for the first time for round 3 of the 12 round series. Ben Townley put in a strong performance on his Luca Oil - Troy Lee - Honda with mixed weather conditions putting BT101 to the test at the High Point Raceway in Mt Morris, Pennsylvania.

With 6th pick of the gate going into Moto 1, Townley grabbed a good start and was in a top 5 position when he was challenged by Tommy Hahn in the opening stages of the race. Townley took some time to regain his speed but then picked off Hahn and Alessi in the same lap before rain made the High Point circuit muddy and slick. He had left it too late to reel in fellow Honda Racer, Andrew Short, and had to settle for 4th spot.

The sun was welcomed for Moto 2 as track conditions dried out however Townley could not get the start he needed and was way back in the pack with a mammoth task ahead. The Kiwi put in an amazing charge from outside the top twenty and within 3 laps had rocketed to 7th place before he stalled his machine and was relegated down the field again. Townley took the bit between his teeth and once again charged back into the top ten when another error saw him go down and lose valuable time and positions. Determined not to give up Townley remounted and put in some blistering laps to finally finish in 6th place, posting the second fastest lap of the race as he came through the field.

"I rode really tight in the first moto and could not find my groove at all so I was not too happy with my performance. Coming into the weekend, we made some changes to the bike which we thought would work better for this kind of track but I just didn't feel accustomed with the settings at all. When it started to rain towards the end of the moto I felt much better. We changed up a lot of things on the bike for the second moto and instantly I felt more comfortable. My start let me down but I was running such good speed and gelled well with the bike. I made two mistakes which cost me a possible podium but one consolation is that my speed was good. Now I just need to work on consistency and putting two solid motos together. I really enjoy Budds Creek so look forward to improving on my results."

Rynoland HAS ClosED it's Doors.

Ryan Hughes quote: "To everyone that has continued to support Rynoland and our dream of giving back to the motocross community, we regretfully must announce that Rynoland closed it's doors.. We just want to thank everyone that supported our venture through the last couple years. Rynoland held some amazing events and we had the chance to meet so many wonderful people, so thank you to everyone that contributed to Rynoland.

It was a beautiful venture to have a motocross track and the facility was indeed amazing. Riding in snow in the winter, fields of flowers in the spring and enjoying the warm summers; especially the evenings with a million stars...we will never forget this peaceful, soul-pleasing, amazingly fun place. We put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into Rynoland, but it is time to move on..."

2011 SENIOR MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP DATES CONFIRMED
SENIOR MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP DATES CONFIRMED Following their meeting in Wellington on July 17th, Motorcycling New Zealand’s Motocross Commission has finalised the dates for next season’s Championships. The season will move to February/March 2011. This change has been driven for the following reasons: With better and more settled weather, we hope to encourage more public to attend and give the sponsors better value for their money and wider exposure for their brand With new bikes arriving later and later in the year. By moving to early in the year the Industry will all have their new bikes in the country. For the Clubs/volunteers who make these events happen, more public through the gate equates to better revenue for all their hard work For the Riders, they will have the opportunity to train with the benefit of summer and daylight saving, rather than going into the Championships from the depths of winter. An added advantage with the moving of the MX Championships is it will enable the Supercross season to run prior to the MX season and will also assist in aligning the New Zealand MX/SX seasons with our Australian neighbours. Senior MX Championships: Round 1 ~ Sunday February 20th ~ South Canterbury Motorcycle Club Round 2 ~ Sunday March 6th ~ Patetonga Motorcycle Club Round 3 ~ Sunday March 20th ~ Rotorua Motorcycle Club Round 4 ~ Sunday March 27th ~ Taranaki Motorcycle Club Prepared for Motorcycling New Zealand Inc.
